 2009 Hammer Match Sprint Tournament

The 2009 Hammer Match Sprint Tournament, presented by the Hammer racing team and the Colorado Velodrome Association

Sunday July 26, 2009. Racing begins at 9:00 AM. All racers MUST have a current, 2009 USAC racing license and have it with them. Due to time constraints and to facilitate more racing a maximum of 20 male riders and 10 female riders will be registered. Pre-registration for is required as capacity registration is anticipated prior to race day. E-mail Steven Truesdale for more information and to register at Steven.truesdale@ymail.com.

Entry fee is $18 and includes a $3 per day USAC surcharge. Each racer must pay an additional $10 per day OTC facility use fee at the track unless he or she holds a 2009 OTC Season pass. Race entry fee does NOT include the mandatory $10 per day OTC Facility use fee. OTC season passes are available for $150 at the track.

This is a 2-up, single-elimination, tournament style match sprint competition. Final round will be best 2 out of 3. The competition will begin with a Flying 200m TT to determine qualifying times. Every registered racer must race a 200 for bracket eligibility. The fastest 16 racers will qualify for the A and B brackets. The fastest 8 women will qualify for the womens bracket. Women may choose to race their 200 for eligibility into the A or B brackets should they desire a higher level of competition, and/or a potential for higher cash payout. Women that choose to race in the A and B bracket pool, should declare their intentions upon registration. Racers will be seeded into each bracket via their 200 times. Each race will be a 2-up, two lap, match sprint, with the exception of the final round, which will be best 2 out of 3.

Each competitor that qualifies for a bracket will be guaranteed at least 2 match sprints in addition to their 200m TT. Each non-qualifying racer (9th and 10th fastest women, and 17th through 20th fastest men) will race one 4-up (2-up for women) sprint to determine placings. There will be a separate womens bracket if there are at least 4 women competitors who choose to race in the womens pool. In the case the womens bracket does not fill, the format may be modified to afford more sprinting opportunities, should time allow.

In addition to fastest 200 primes for men, women and masters, the race will also have cash payout.

Top Five Reasons to Join the CVA

5. Eligible for Rider Of The Year competition and prizes.

4. Discounts on entry fees for Tuesday and Thursday night events (you pay $5 less per night than non-CVA members) and the opportunity to purchase monthly or season passes for the track usage fee.

3. Assignment of a permanent racing number for the season.

2. Opportunity to purchase 6-paks, which further discounts registration fees for Tuesday and Thursday night series.

1. And the opportunity (after the first week of racing) to register on line prior to leaving for the track and avoid any need to even check in at the velodrome! Arrive when you want, and race in the categories in which you registered earlier in the day.

So complete the membership form and send it in to
cvatrack@gmail.com or mail it to CVA, 236 Writers Way #200, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Then, on the first night that you come to race at the velodrome, please plan to bring your check for $60 (made out to the CVA), sign a waiver and pick up your season number. At that time, you may choose to purchase a 6-pak (a $36 value for the price of $30 each - Tuesday nights require one punch, Thursday nights require two punches) and begin registering on line. Our promoter will keep track of your "virtual" 6-pak punches and when you run out of credit, you'll be reminded to stop by and purchase another 6-pak.

So... download and complete the CVA membership form today and send it electronically or through the mail. Bring your check during the first week of racing and purchase your 6-pak to begin on line registration. You may never have to see another registration line again on Tuesday or Thursday nights!

Oh, and don't forget to encourage your club to join the CVA for just $35 per year. Member clubs are eligible for BAT awards, may be included as a promoting club on a CVA clinic or race, and determine the future direction of the CVA. Club membership applications may also be completed and e-mailed or sent to the address above, accompanied by a $35 check.

Questions to cvatrack@gmail.com. Claire Landis-Tyson will be happy to answer any that you may have.
